Press/Video: ‘Dune’ Unveils Trailer for Ambitious Sci-Fi Adaptation

Denis Villeneuve directs the film, which stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya and an all-star cast.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: Last September, the first trailer to Dune was released to much fanfare. Ten months later, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi adaptation is back after a long delay as COVID-19 upended the theatrical marketplace. Timothée Chalamet stars in Dune as Paul, heir to House Atreides.

The new trailer opens with Chani (Zendaya) narrating a look at her desert planet, Arrakis, explaining how the empire has exploited the planet for its natural resource known as Spice, and how her people have fought back. Spice is needed to conduct interstellar travel, making it the most valuable resource in the known universe. The film sees House Atreides — led by Leto (Oscar Isaac) — take stewardship over Arrakis.

Dune, from Legendary and Warner Bros., is part one of a planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel, which is credited with inspiring works such as Star Wars. It also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling and Stellan Skarsgard, as the villainous Baron Harkonnen. Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth penned the script.

In addition to the film, Dune is being spun off as a TV show. Dune will debut in theaters and on HBO Max on Oct. 22.

Press/Video: ‘See’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as Brothers at War

Season 2 premieres August 27 on Apple TV+.

COLLIDER: Apple TV+ has debuted the full Season 2 trailer and a new synopsis for the post-apocalyptic drama series See, which stars Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, and Alfre Woodard. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere next month, Apple TV+ also confirmed that the show had been renewed for Season 3. The eight-episode second season will premiere on August 27 with the first episode, with new episodes releasing weekly on Friday.

Season 2 picks up with our lead, Baba Voss (Momoa), who fights to keep his family out of the war brewing on the horizon. The situation becomes more complicated when his estranged brother, Edo (Bautista), arrives on the scene seemingly intent on making Baba suffer — and having a personal hand in taking away everything his brother loves. Additionally, with the rise of sighted children being born, it appears that those who have vision might end up having the power.

Press: Jason Momoa Confirms He Starts Filming ‘Aquaman 2’ Today, Teases a Hair Color Change

The king is back in the ocean

COLLIDER: Star Jason Momoa used his Instagram account to reveal that he arrived yesterday in London to start filming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. James Wan’s sequel begun filming at the end of last June, but now Aquaman himself is ready to get back to the throne of Atlantis, as Momoa starts shooting the scenes featuring the titular hero.

In the post published by Momoa yesterday, the star celebrated his arrival to London. “It is sunny out. It’s amazing, and I’m going to start Aquaman2 tomorrow”, Momoa said. Momoa also explained the sequel will have him dying his hair, as yesterday was the “the last day of the brown.” Wan might be trying to get closer to the original comics for the sequel, as Momoa says he’s “going to be a blond.” Joking about the hair color change, Momoa also added that “supposedly they [blonds] have more fun. I don’t know about that. We’ll test it out.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will take the sea hero to the titular Lost Kingdom, a part of the Atlantean Empire lost in History after the Atlanteans fell into ruin and became an underwater people. Due to a cryptic set photo posted by Wan, we speculated the Lost Kingdom is the Black City of Necrus, an Atlantean Kingdom that despises surface-dwellers. Since Patrick Wilson is coming back as Ocean Master for the sequel, the city of Necrus could give the fallen king the military power he wants to wipe out humanity, a mission he failed to complete during the first movie.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see the return of Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father, Tom Curry. Game of Thrones’ Pilou Asbæk also joins the cast at an undisclosed part. Wan directs from a script written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, but Momoa himself co-wrote the story treatment for the sequel.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently scheduled for a December 16, 2022 release date. Check out Jason Momoa’s Instagram post below:

Press: Carrie Fisher to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star(and Jason too!)

YAHOO LIFE: For many in showbiz, it’s seen as the true mark of their legacy as entertainers. Nope, not talking about Oscars or Grammys. We’re talking about a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And although she’s sadly not here to see it, at long last, Carrie Fisher will receive hers. The news came from the official Walk of Fame website, which revealed its inductees for 2022. We think it’s high time that the writer, actress, Princess freakin’ Leia icon finally got her star.

It’s too early to say, but we imagine her daughter Billie Lourd will speak at the induction ceremony. And we’d like to think the man who called her “space sis,” Mark Hamill, could also be on hand. Honestly, everyone involved with the original Star Wars saga should be there. What would Star Wars even be without our Princess/Jedi/General? It wouldn’t be nearly as great, that’s what. And George Lucas would be the first to tell you that.

Press: It’s Official: ‘Dune’ to World Premiere at Venice Film Festival


VARIETY: It’s official: Denis Villeneuve’s hotly-anticipated “Dune” reboot will world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September.

As first anticipated by Variety, the fest has announced that the big-budget sci-fi epic starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya will world premiere in Venice out-of-competition on September 3.

The film is adapted from Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction bestseller about young Paul Atreides (Chalamet), scion of the noble House of Atreides which has been tasked with overseeing the barren desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune.

Villeneuve was last in Venice with a non-conventional sci-fi pic “Arrival” in 2016.

The star-studded pic from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

Though Venice, as is customary, has not specified what talents will be attending the “Dune” premiere, it’s a safe bet that Warner Bros. will be flying in some stars.

“Dune” is scheduled for a simultaneous release in theaters via Warner Bros. and on HBO Max on October 1.

Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. produced the film. The executive producers were Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Venice’s upcoming Sept. 1-11 edition is on track, barring complications, to run as a completely in-person celebration of cinema with hundreds of journalists and dozens of film delegations expected to make the trek to the Lido from all over the world.

Other high-profile titles believed to be locked in for a Lido launch comprise Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, and Paolo Sorrentino’s semi-autobiographical drama “The Hand of God,” both from Netflix.

As previously announced, Bong Joon-ho will preside over the main Venice jury, while Italian multiple Oscar winner Roberto Benigni (“Life Is Beautiful”) will be honored with a lifetime achievement award.

Press: ‘Aquaman 2’ Is Titled ‘The Lost Kingdom’

Filmmaker James Wan revealed the name as the film enters pre-production.

 

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: James Wan has unveiled the title for his upcoming Aquaman sequel. The film will be called Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the filmmaker revealed Thursday.

The upcoming project stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, with Amber Heard expected to return as Mera and Patrick Wilson back as Orm. The original Aquaman, released in December 2018, grossed more than $1 billion, making it the only DC film to reach that number outside of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Wan is producing alongside Peter Safran, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick returning to pen the script.

Wan is preparing to launch his next directorial effort, the original horror film Malignant, which hits theaters and HBO Max on Sept. 10. He previously was developing the horror-tinged Aquaman spinoff The Trench, but Warners opted not to move forward with that project in April.

In addition to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Warners has a full roster of DC Film projects coming up, including The Suicide Squad (Aug. 6), The Batman (March 4, 2022), The Flash (Nov. 4, 2022), and Warners’ and New Line’s Black Adam (July 29, 2022) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (June 2, 2023). Blue Beetle, Batgirl, Supergirl, Green Lantern Corps, Static Shock and Wonder Woman 3 are also in the works.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has a release date of Dec. 16, 2022.

MEN’S HEALTH – ONE MORNING IN LATE JULY, in the Year of Whatever Can Go Wrong Will Go Wrong And/Or Might Actually Kill You otherwise known as 2020, Los Angeles drivers westbound on the 118 were treated to a surreal sight even by California standards. There, in the slow lane of the freeway, a giant man was sputtering along in a 1929 Ford Model A hot rod with no roof and no windshield. His long, sandy-blond hair whipped across his face in the wind, and the red blanket he had placed over the busted car seat to cushion it was now flying like a cape behind his neck. Those who pulled up close to get a better look at a potential real-life Superman weren’t too far off the mark. It was Jason Momoa—Aquaman himself—behind the wheel, drumming on his knees to the Tom Waits song playing in his head while his car slowly broke down beneath him. Then, just as he neared his exit in the San Fernando Valley, radiator fluid began spraying all over his face. He was due at a photo shoot for this magazine in ten minutes.

“My wife makes fun of me all the time because everything I have breaks down,” he tells me when he arrives at the shoot only a few minutes behind schedule, freshly delivered to the set with a huge smile after hitching a ride with a buddy. He needs all of two minutes to peel off his stained shirt for a clean one and splash some water on his beard before he’s ready for the first shot, and one quickly surmises that Momoa is the type of guy to whom this kind of shit happens all the time. “I like old, beautiful things,” he says, shrugging off the roadside havoc. “It feels like you’re in a time capsule when you’re riding an old bike.”

But for all the old-man affection for classic racers and vintage Harleys, and for all the brick-house physicality that would’ve made him an outstanding ’80s action hero, Momoa has spent the past few years slowly revealing himself to be the most singular and surprising—the most modern, really—male movie star we’ve got. “I don’t do incognito,” he explains. “Here’s this flamboyant Cadillac I’ve had since I was 22, because I love Elvis. Here’s my top-hat collection, because I love top hats. Here’s my ridiculous pink fur coat. I have a lot of weird things.” Perhaps it’s because he used to go antiquing “all the time” with his mom that he appreciates well-made items and durable designs. “I can look at a rusty spoon,” he tells me, “and it defines who I am.”
